On March 12th, 2009 Diamond Aircraft received the much anticipated type certificate for its DA42 NG, powered by the 170 hp Austro Engine AE-300.
“We are delighted to be able to resume volume deliveries of the DA42, less than 11 months after the insolvency of TAE”, said Christian Dries, CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries. “The DA42 NG is better in every respect with much improved performance, increased gross weight, even better fuel efficiency and the Garmin GFC 700 autopilot and is prepared for Garmin Synthetic Vision System. With over 40 airframes already in various stages of production, we will be delivering the first aircraft almost immediately. Most important to the existing customer base, we are focusing our efforts to achieve the certification of the optional upgrade of all delivered DA42s with the Austro Engine, such that all customers can benefit from these improvements along with comprehensive customer support for their engines. We will shortly be announcing the details of an all inclusive maintenance program that will ensure a superior level of support as we work to extend the TBO of the engine from 1000 to 2000 hours. In parallel we are pursuing validation of the certification in all other markets as quickly as possible.”
With over 500 delivered aircraft operating worldwide, the DA42 is the best selling light twin engine piston aircraft, popular with private pilots and commercial flight training organizations. With its all carbon airframe, known ice certification, Garmin G1000 and single lever jetfuel powered turbo-diesel engines, the DA42 is the undisputed technology leader in general aviation.
The DA42 MPP multi purpose special mission sensor platform version of the DA42 is gaining worldwide popularity in search and rescue, law enforcement, border patrol, security, maritime surveillance, high accuracy digital mapping, and ecological monitoring.

The news this month was focused on the historic American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 aka the “Stimulus Package”.
Regardless of how you may feel about the nearly $800 billion law, there is at least good news, no make that great news for those of you that might like to purchase an aircraft in 2009.
The new law is truly unprecedented. Never before has the government given such an aggressive incentive on the purchase of aircraft. Its stated purpose is to stimulate the economy and get businesses and individuals investing and spending again. It appears to have the potential to do just that once people understand the nuances of these new regulations.
The bill readopts 50% bonus depreciation and expansion of the section 179 deductions up to $250,000. The package also includes a new provision that allows losses of qualified taxpayers incurred in 2008 or 2009 to be carried back 5 years and allow taxpayers an immediate refund.
“Our role is to help our clients understand what the potential is for them in their particular circumstances.” states John Armstrong, Director of Sales for Dominion Aircraft Sales. “When they see how they can potentially acquire an aircraft they desire on a positive cash flow basis, they are usually very encouraged and we can help them review the potential with qualified advisers.”
In the backdrop of potentially higher tax rates on businesses and wealthy individuals in the future, the 2009 tax law as it applies to tax planning and potential aircraft purchases is very important for business owners and pilots to understand and reevaluate their business plans in light of the new opportunities.
“We are encouraging our clients to take time now to study the implications for tax planning because the new law allows qualified buyers to potentially reach back up to five years to use taxes paid in prior years to help fund the purchase.” continues Armstrong.
Call 877-258-8011 to review your particular situation and see how the “Stimulus Bill” can have you flying high this year.

Austro Engine and Diamond Aircraft Industries receive Type Certification for the turbo-diesel airplane engine AE 300!
FlyDominion
News
According to Mr. Christian Dries, CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH, and the Executive Management Team of Austro Engine GmbH, the certification of the E4 engine was achieved after 42 months of most intense development work and program costs of Euro 48 Million. “The complete program developed into one that was significantly more complex than originally anticipated. Only the full dedication of all participants, specifically the Austrian and European Airworthiness Authorities, MB Tech, Bosch General Aviation Technologies and our employees, enabled the successful conclusion of the certification process.”
The issuance of this Type Certificate represents a most significant milestone and secures the future of the company.
There are already 27 Diamond DA42 NG with AE 300 engines on the production line, whose type certification is also expected imminently. Following will be AE 300 powered versions of
the DA40 and the DA50. Based on the high demand, the AE 300 powered version of the MPP will also be certified as soon as possible. For the existing diesel engine powered Diamond fleet, a retrofit solution to convert to AE 300 power will be developed and offered.
Christian Dries, CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries, and Thomas Mueller, General Manager of Austro Engine, are confident of a good future for the companies, despite the current difficult times.

Diamond DA40 selected by the USAF Academy
FlyDominion
News
The Diamond DA40 CS Diamond Star has been selected for the Powered Flight Program at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). Twenty Diamond DA40 CS aircraft have been ordered, with deliveries to begin in early 2009.
The USAFA Powered Flight Program is an airmanship course that incorporates both academic study and flight training to introduce cadets to the core aviation mission of the United States Air Force. The 557th Flight Training Squadron will operate the aircraft from the USAFA at Colorado Springs, Colorado, under a contract managed by Blue Sky Aviation, the primary contractor, and their partner Doss Aviation.
“We are very excited to have been chosen for this contract and for the opportunity to provide cadet flight instruction in our new DA40s,” said Anthony Sweet, President of Blue Sky Aviation. Ken Smith, President and CEO of Doss Aviation, Inc. added, “This is a fantastic opportunity for us. We have enjoyed a great relationship for several years with Diamond Aircraft and the United States Air Force Academy. It’s a great win for our team and an even greater win for the Academy’s flight training program.”
The Diamond DA20 two-seat aircraft was flown in the USAFA Introductory Flight Training program from 2002-2007. Today, all USAF pilot and combat weapon system officer candidates receive primary flight training in the DA20 as part of the USAF Initial Flight Screening program at Pueblo, Colorado, operated by Doss Aviation.
“Diamond Aircraft is honored by the selection of the DA40 CS and our continued association with the United States Air Force Academy,” said David Moser, Director of Fleet Sales at Diamond Aircraft. “Through the Powered Flight Program, cadets will be exposed to a modern aircraft, with cutting edge avionics, very early in their military careers.” Read the rest of this entry »
